Executive Director Recruitment InformationWelcome to the Mensa International, Ltd (MIL) Web site! You have found the section that we have generated to provide information to those who are interested in the position of Mensa International Executive Director. On this page you will find a number of helpful links including a list of the Executive Director functions, a list of the desirable attributes that MIL would like to see in prospective candidates and an application form in both Word and PDF formats. For those of you who are not familiar with Mensa, please feel free to browse other areas of the MIL Web site as you will find a wealth of information there. The Mensa Information page will provide a great variety of Mensa information, including the requirement for membership (yes, there is only one requirement), some Mensa history and Mensa’s goals. The Membership Benefits page also provides useful information regarding Mensa’s activities and other reasons why Mensa membership is so desirable. The National Groups page will give you an idea of Mensa’s pervasive nature. Mensa has over 100,000 members spread across the globe. The countries listed on the National Groups page are those that have achieved formal recognition for their organizational achievements. The link to each of those groups will take you to that country’s home page and provide more detailed information about that specific national group. General Recruitment InformationMIL’s office is currently located in London and currently employs two staff—the Executive Director and the Assistant Executive Director. The current MIL Executive Director will be retiring in 2006 after almost 20 years of exemplary service. While applications (see Application Form) will be accepted beginning March 1, 2006, recruitment will remain open and applications accepted until a list of acceptable candidates has been identified. It is expected that an appointment will be made by the end of July. Please note that MIL will not provide reimbursement for relocation expenses.Who May Apply?Although Mensa members may apply for the position, the recruitment is open to any and all interested individuals. Members and non-members will be treated and evaluated equally. One caveat—if a member is selected and appointed to the position, that individual must resign his or her Mensa membership for the duration of employment. If, subsequently, the former member leaves MIL employment, his or her Mensa membership may be resumed and will be considered contiguous, although time spent in the Executive Director position will not be used to calculate total membership duration. The PositionIt is not expected that the Executive Director position will require full-time 40 hours of work each week. Although there are peaks and valleys, it is estimated that the qualified individual, after a reasonable break-in period, will work an average of about 30 hours a week. Compensation will be commensurate with average working hours and experience. At the present time, the Assistant Executive Director works from home with occasional trips to the London office. As the result of a recent decision by the Mensa International Board of Directors, the London office will be closed. As soon as the office is sublet, the Executive Director will also work from home. Formal closure of the office will probably not be completed until June 2006 at the earliest. It should also be noted that in addition to the Assistant there is a MIL Executive Committee comprised of seven member officers as well as numerous appointed member positions to assist the office staff. The International Board of Directors, with about 35 members comprised mainly of the leaders of the recognized national Mensas, also provides guidance and support. How to ApplyIf you are interested in applying for the Executive Director position please note that you must meet the following requirements in order to be considered in the selection process:
